There is always a need for foster parents and there is clear need for Muslim foster parents. If I had a spare room then I would not hesitate to do this.
URGENT APPEAL TO FIND MORE MUSLIM FOSTER CARERS IN LONDON
Foster Care Link is the only agency in the UK which is run by Muslims to serve Muslims in finding families for Muslim children that go into care.
Alhumdulillah, we have worked with 20 Councils so far to make sure Muslim children are placed with caring and nurturing families via our ‘Muslim Fostering Service’. We have also been judged as Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted, and received the Muslim News Award for Excellence in 2007.
Many Muslim children are still being placed in care with non-Muslim families, simply because there are not enough Muslim foster carers. We pay foster carers around £340 per child per week, and carers can look after upto 3 children if they have the space and ability.
We now need more families to step forward and become foster carers. We urgently need around 10 families across the Greater London area to join our organisation and become approved foster carers. This might sound easy, but many people have a good heart and clean intentions, but are not suitable for fostering. This is because we need families with the following qualities:
– Spare room
– Secure long-term accommodation (not short term tenancy)
– British national or indefinite leave to remain
– Willing to care for wide age ranges i.e. 6-18, 0-13 etc (not only 0-4 or 0-8)
– Willing to attend training
– Willing to let a social worker visit your home and carry out a family assessment
– Caring, patient, flexible, pro-active attitude ready to deal with challenges
– Not reliant on fostering income only (have other sources of income and are financially stable)
