London Halal Food Festival at Tobacco Dock

Last month we were invited to attend the London Halal Food Festival which is held annually at Tobacco Dock in London. The word food meant we just couldn’t not go! I wrote about the festival before we attended, and once there, it did not disappoint.

Once we parked the car we just had a short distance to walk to Tobacco Dock, and as we neared the venue you were just hit with a variety of mouth watering aromas….making you immediately feel hungry. As we arrived about half an hour after it opened we managed to avoid the queues and got straight in.

The festival was clearly as popular as ever with over 18,000 visitors over the 2 day event and this year there were over 100 international food and drinks stalls…including new up and coming eateries. You were definitely spoilt for choice.

There was something for everyone!

Fried free burger
Fried free burger – tasted just as good as a fried one!
Had to try some Pakora

As someone with an exceptionally sweet tooth, my favourites were the Chocolateeha shake and Churro’s. And I was particularly fascinated by the ice cream rolling which you can see in the video at the end of the post.

What I hadn’t realised was that the festival wasn’t just about food, but also had a number of lifestyle stalls. As a result my wallet ended up a lot lighter after finding some amazing businesses and products.

Fit Lounge
Organic soaps – had to purchase some!
Latin Honey Shop
A variety of honey’s that can help with different ailments

And not just food and shopping, there was plenty of entertainment. Live cooking shows and ‘eat offs’ and if you wanted to relax there was a shisha lounge and entertainment in the form of Qawwalli.

The weather was kind to us and it was a lovely way to spend a few hours. The stalls are a mixture of indoors and outdoors with the majority being indoors. I must admit that I did feel like some of the items were a bit overpriced and the hubby had a shock when he ordered something without first asking the price to then realise how much it was going to cost him…

Our best buy of the day had to be the honey which was being sold at a cheaper price then usual.

We attended the morning session and it wasn’t too busy in that we didn’t have to queue for too long at any of the stalls…however it did start to get busier as the morning went on. And it did get hard to find anywhere to sit down to eat. So be prepared to stand and eat.

So if you love food (and who doesn’t)  why not check out the festival next year? Am sure it will be bigger and better! Take a look at the video below to see some of our highlights. And if you want further information then take a look at their website: London Halal Food Festival.

Some fun facts about the festival:

Over 10,000 oranges were squeezed for Penny Appeal
Over 300 kilos of chicken was sold by one stall holder
All churros sold, put together, reach a combined length equivalent to five Big Ben’s in
height.

Disclosure: We were invited to attend the festival as a ‘Halal Hero’ and we were provided vouchers to try out some food items from some of the stalls. However all thoughts and opinions are our own.
