Having fun at Skylark Maize Maze

I have never been to a proper maze, in all honesty I worried about getting lost.

And my parents never took me as a child.

But when I saw a friend mentioning on Facebook how much fun they had at a maze which was about 30 minutes, I decided to give it a try with the girls. And I roped a friend and her children into coming too.

Well if I was going to get lost I wasn’t going to get lost alone.

We almost got lost on the way there, as the 3G signal on my phone wasn’t working so Google Maps wasn’t loading. I did worry that this was potentially a sign of things to come, but we managed to get there. Luckily the route is pretty straight forward and I had quickly checked before we left.

Before we got to the actual maze, we went through what was called The Happy Hands trail where you collect coloured hand prints.

I initially thought that perhaps this was the actual maze! So wondered where the maize was, and why they said it would take at least 45 minutes as it literally took 5 minutes to walk through. But as we left The Happy Trail we spotted the actual maze and in we ventured.

Now walking around a huge maze, surrounded by maize and getting lost probably does not sound appealing to many. However, at Skylark Maize Maze they have made it fun for the children by making it jungle themed and the maze itself is actually in the shape of a monkey.

Throughout the maze you are meant to look for different jungle animal (stations) and complete an activity to collect monkey nuts (points). At the end of it the person with the most points wins.

Now in all honesty the girls did get bit tired after a short while so cue some over dramatics: ‘We can’t be lost in here forever, I have things to do with my life!’

So after only finding 2 stations we decided to try to find the way out. Luckily we had purchased a map to help us with this.

Once we escaped from the maze we had a lovely lunch at the cafe and then let the girls loose to play. They also had some animals there and we watched a pig race! For even more fun, they have a fun tractor ride in which you take water guns to shoot the pesky pigeons. Now before anyone screams animal rights, they are wood cutouts of pigeons. And on the way back the ‘pigeons’ get their revenge by shooting back!

All in all we had a lovely day out.
