Panto Fun with Peter Pan at the Key Theatre

We don’t often go to pantomimes. I think the last (and my first time) was a few years ago. So when we were invited to the Press Night at the Key Theatre we decided to go…the bonus was it was Peter Pan and I love Peter Pan. We were seated about 6 rows from the

Ad gifted I was invited by @multiculturalmotherh Ad gifted

I was invited by @multiculturalmotherhood to try out her Raising Talkers course. As I have a toddler who is learning how to talk I decided to give it a try.

The course is run in 4 modules:
1. All about typical speech and language development
2. Atypical speech and language development
3. Tips and strategies for boosting speech and language skills
4. Games and activities to boost your childs speech and language skills

Each module consists of a video of Ronni talking and then a detailed PDF covering what was discussed. At the end of the week you then have an opportunity to ask questions in a live Q&A (submitting any questions a couple of days before). The final video is of Ronni and her son playing some of the games suggested.

The course is ideal for any parents that may need a bit of help/reassurance about their child’s speech and language development. Parents are not just told how to help their child but it is also explained in detail about the stages of speech development and what level they generally should be at certain ages.

The videos are around 40 mins long each….if like me sometimes you struggle to focus on videos where someone is just talking, you can break it up and watch it in short segments but ultimately the PDF will cover everything that was discussed. And if there is anything you didn’t understand or would like to discuss in more detail, then the Q&A is exactly for that.

Based on the information Ronni provided, I realised that Minu is pretty much at the level she should be, however I will still be giving some of the games and activities suggested a try to further her development.

If you want some support when it comes to your child’s speech and language then its worth giving the course a try.
Potty training I thought I was done with all that Potty training

I thought I was done with all that, but nope here we are again!

I’m pretty chilled out when it comes to potty training…Bee was closer to 3 when she potty trained and it was done in 2 days.

But my word, the comments I got, especially from those in Pakistan. she’s too old, she’s going to get bent legs with the nappies on etc etc.

Now I did consider potty training her as soon as she hit 2 as it was the summer holidays…but she did one wee in the potty and that was it…not going to sit on it again.

So I left it. She clearly wasn’t ready. Recently I noticed she was getting a bit stressed and holding on to her nappy while saying wee. So I decided to try one of these toilet seats and see if that helped. It arrived and I asked her did she want to sit on it….no!

So I put it on top of the cupboard and left it. And today she was getting stressed again so I suggested we use it and she sat on it. And she used it twice so far.

Now we aren’t officially potty training but it’s there for her to use and get used to it. I always take the chilled out way…and let them lead. Rather than say this week we are potting training and it has to be done….and get stressed in the process.

I do have the luxury of being a stay at home, so I’m not working to potty train her by a certain date for whatever reason and I’m glad of that. We can take it slow and at her pace.

But my tips:

Introduce the potty/seat for a while. Let the child see it and get used to it. It doesn’t have to be used immediately.

Talk to them everyday about how everyone else is using a potty/toilet and the child should soon too.

Maybe I’ll do a blog post soon with the things that worked for me. But I’m taking the relaxed approach right now…and the nappy is still on…she may just train herself at this rate.

What are your tips for potty training?

Decided to head over to the @exoticpetrefuge today Decided to head over to the @exoticpetrefuge today as it was their final open day of the year. The last time we went was years ago that the eldest doesn’t even remember going.

Then had promised Bee bubble tea for her birthday and she has been reminding me since Friday…so had to go!

Hope you all had a nice weekend!

How is she 11??? I only do parties as a one off n How is she 11???

I only do parties as a one off now and then, this year it was just a family meal (although minus the eldest as she wasn’t feeling well). Got her a cake from @cakeinnpbro and drove to @pamsongrillofficial although I was tired…but Bee wanted to go out the city and I haven’t had their papri chaat in years now! (Forgot to take a picture of it).

Honestly I’m starting to feel a bit old. One off to uni next year in sha Allah and Bee just turned 11 and will be off to secondary school next September in sha Allah.

Currently deciding what secondary school she will go to. The decision has been made not to send her to the secondary school the eldest is going to as although the eldest has done well she says not to send her there as things have gone downhill.

There’s a girls Islamic school but I’m unlikely to send her there but will still check it out.

I was going to make her do the 11+ test as I think she can pass it, but the school it’s for I’ve heard they had issues of racism even recently. And although they do well academically, my heart isn’t in sending her there for some reason. Can’t explain it. Plus it’s a religious school and extremely hard to get into anyway. So why put her through the stress of the exam.

And there’s a brand new school nearby but new ones are always risky.

Honestly hate making this decision! Anyone else having to make that decision this year?

I wrote something like this in a group and thought I wrote something like this in a group and thought I’d share here too.

When talking about loneliness, if you are feeling lonely then YOU have to try to do something about it.

I’ve had 3 girls (youngest being 2) and I experienced being lonely through them all as I’ve never had many friends in this city. My closest friends are my uni friends who are now dotted across the country.

With my eldest I went back to work part time so at least I got out to speak to other adults. But with my other two I was a stay at home mum. And frankly at times it was depressing as my husband was always at work and not very hands on.

Until I started to go out to as many baby/toddler groups that I could do. It did me good to get out.

Yes toddler groups themselves can be a bit hard at times as often there are groups of mums that are already friends…but there’s always mums there that don’t know anyone either.

Make the first move, get chatting…they are probably just as nervous as you are.

We have had a quiet Monday and Tuesday. The older We have had a quiet Monday and Tuesday. The older two girls went back to school and Minu has been adjusting to a quiet house without them.

But it was nice to just have some peace and quiet.

Now back to our routine of chilling at home mixed in with some toddler groups.

Hope those off to school went off OK and have a good school year!
Back to school tomorrow! It’s been a mixed sum Back to school tomorrow!

It’s been a mixed summer holidays, with rain and illness, but I think we made some decent memories!

Are you all ready for back to school??
The original plan had been to go out somewhere for The original plan had been to go out somewhere for a final day out before back to school tomorrow….but I realised these summer holidays have made me a bit poor 🤦🏽‍♀️🙊

So decided to tackle the garden instead.

First target: the buddleia bushes, which have now turned into a den. (By the way chopping bushes is strangely therapeutic, you can let your frustration out 🙊)

You don’t always have to spend lots of money to have fun, toddlers just need simple things and attention!

Ad gifted Bee was so excited to see another book Ad gifted

Bee was so excited to see another book from @zanibmian ‘Meet the Maliks’.

‘’Maysa and Musa Malik are twins who are total opposites. But when their cookies for a baking competition at the mosque are destroyed, can they become an unstoppable detective team?’’

A fun book with characters the children can relate to including a messy room 🙊

The illustrations throughout the book make it interesting and the plot keeps the children reading to find out who destroyed the cookies!

What I personally loved about the book is that it was also educational in that it explained about the prayers and Ramadan, with the characters non Muslim friend also joining it. The book also teaches some important life lessons. Definitely one to get the children.

Although Bee is almost 11 she still loved reading it and finished it in a day. Hopefully there will be more stories about the Maliks!

The plan had been to go to @omd_farm but the weath The plan had been to go to @omd_farm but the weather forecast had me indecisive…but then at the last minute I said let’s go so a mad rush in the morning to get ready!

And we are so glad we went! The rain held off and Bee and Minu had a lovely time. They got to pet a pony, tortoises and rabbits, walked around and saw some animals including meerkats, sat on some rides, played in the play area and saw @circusofdreamsuk

There were a few rides that Minu couldn’t go on due to her height but there was plenty for her to enjoy…we had to literally drag her away from the play area.

Just some highlights shared in our reel as couldn’t share it all!
