Cafe Yu – a family run cafe with a relaxed atmosphere.

Growing up I never really had a full English breakfast. It was usually cereal, toast or egg but recently I have become a fan of the full English breakfast, especially since I can treat myself to a halal one at a local cafe; Cafe Yu.

If you need a bit of a spiritual uplift about being a woman and a woman’s journey from ‘the inception of the soul to the end of life on earth’ then this is a must have book.

Following the stages of a woman’s life, the chapters within the book are:
* The Soul: Wide Oceans
* Childhood: Snowflake Crystals
* Youth: Streams
* Knowledge: Springs
* The Heart: Sea of Change
* Health and Appearance: Lake and Reflections
* Marriage: Clouds and Seas
* Motherhood: Raindrops
* The Age of Wisdom: Treasures in the Sea
* The Soul’s Journey On: The Shoreline

Each chapter follows the same format; Introduction, Myriad Voices, Translations of Verses from the Quran and Hadith, Dua’s and finally Noble Women.

Every woman who reads this is sure to be able to relate to each chapter. From the myriad voices to the Quran and hadith used, to the example of the noble women, this book is ideal for anyone who requires a spiritual uplift and are striving for a better connection with their faith and understanding as a woman

The book by @rooted_writer is one that you will find yourself turning to again and again when in need of some guidance and/or inspiration.

Head over to the blog post for a bit more detail.

Sadly I’m yet to go and see my great niece. I ha Sadly I’m yet to go and see my great niece. I had been hoping I’d be able to go this month but then we moved from tier 4 to lockdown....so instead I’m sending over some gifts as who knows when I’ll actually get to go and see her as it means travelling to another city.

I love personalised dolls and so for one of the gifts I couldn’t resist this doll from @the_little_embroidery_studio They have other items such as blankets too that can be personalised.

Dolls are great as it’s something she can keep and treasure as she gets older.

The lockdown is hard on kids that otherwise were p The lockdown is hard on kids that otherwise were pretty active. We were usually out and about with Quran classes and with karate a number of times a week. Now her karate has been reduced to just 30 min sessions at a time and she’s not getting the exercise she was used to.

For some random reason she’s been keen to go on the treadmill since I went on it and today she kept asking so I told her dad to deal with it. She has loads of energy to burn. So he’s taught her how to use it and off she went (then I realised she was sneakily putting the speed up 🙊😂🤦🏽‍♀️)

While the eldest can sit around all day, eat junk and never put on any weight, Bee is different. She needs to remain active - we let her have a 20 min walk on it even though she wanted longer and now she’s keen to go on it for 30 mins tomorrow. 🤦🏽‍♀️ May just be a novelty for her....will see.

Are you managing to get exercise with the kids daily? We really need to get out for walks more but it’s been cold and we have ended up in hibernation mode 🤦🏽‍♀️ But I realise we need to get out just for some fresh air...will do us the world of good. Maybe tomorrow.
So back to lockdown and remote learning again. Tid So back to lockdown and remote learning again. Tidied up Bee’s desk ready to start tomorrow.

When she was in isolation work was set but she was usually done in a hour or two. Hope they actually do a bit more this time.

I know a lot didn’t want to go into lockdown, that it’s affecting kids mental health etc, that they need to socialise etc. But for us personally I’m glad that the girls aren’t going to school. I was always fearful of them bringing something home and with both myself and the husband with health conditions I was petrified of the girls potentially losing both parents. In addition to this I have to take dad to his appointments and I was scared I’d pass something on to him from the girls.

The eldest does fine and is quite happy to do work at home and barely needs any supervision. She manages her work and gets it done within deadlines. Bee is a bit more social and I think she will miss her friends but she seems happy enough at home for now. I know that I’m lucky and that it’s much harder for other parents. But we can all do this.

Don’t over exert yourselves pushing you and your kids to do it all. Take a breather when needed, don’t worry if some work doesn’t get done, don’t worry if housework doesn’t get done....these are tough times and we need to go easy on ourselves!

Treated him to cupcakes from @creamy_cup_cakes and they taste delicious as usual.

In sha Allah may his health continue to remain stable throughout 2021.
2020 Wow what a year. It’s been a tough one. L 2020

Wow what a year.

It’s been a tough one. Lockdowns, not being able to see families and friends, losing family and friends, financial difficulties, mental health of many being affected....and it doesn’t look like it’s over just yet and 2021 is going to start again with these issues.

2020 has been hard...there’s been a few personal issues that really affected me and I had a few months of feeling really low... however I’m hoping 2021 will be brighter and I had made some plans of what I was going to do once it was safe to do so....However even those plans may go out of the window due to something that I’ve learnt in the last few days. As the Quran says: ‘’They plan, and Allah plans. Surely, Allah is the Best of planners.” #Quran 8:30

Here’s praying that things do improve for us all as 2021 starts.

Love and duas from me and the fam x

The way I get flowers. Actually tell the husband The way I get flowers.

Actually tell the husband I want some!! 😂😂😂🤦🏽‍♀️😂🙊

But they bring a bit of colour into some miserable days. Tired of all this tier stuff and feeling like we are trapped.
Our baking generally never is insta worthy 😂😂

Decided to make some gingerbread men today as that’s on a winter challenge sheet she has.

The poor gingerbread men look they could do with some help. Some had heads falling off, legs falling off etc.

The dough was so crumbly....not sure what I did wrong. Then it said to chill the dough which then led to it being rock solid after 30 minutes 🤷🏽‍♀️

By the time we got them on the tray I was frustrated and squashed them all together, forgetting they would spread. These are the few I could salvage without breaking more heads and arms and legs...the rest were too stuck together 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

But they taste good and that’s the main thing. And Bee enjoys making them.

Don’t ever think the bakes have to look completely perfect. It’s all about the activity and doing it together. And they will be perfect for you!
Our relationship with our neighbour has been prett Our relationship with our neighbour has been pretty turbulent over the last few years.

Islam teaches you to be good to your neighbours

“Serve Allah, and join not any partners with Him; and do good – to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbours who are near, neighbours who are strangers, the Companion by your side, the wayfarer [you meet], and what your right hands possess: For Allah loveth not the arrogant, the vainglorious.”

(Quran 4:36

However she had made it difficult for me to get on with her....although she was saying hello to my husband...we pretty much ignored each other after some issues. Until the pandemic hit. As she’s elderly, her own family not speaking to her and shes completely alone...I encouraged the husband to check in on her and ask her if she needed anything. Then I got over my anger and pride and spoke to her myself when I spotted her outdoors. And got her anything she needed.

She’s simply a lonely old woman, sometimes a bit too proud to ask for help. But she clearly appreciated the help we have given her recently as the girls got a Christmas present after many years from her!

I think I’ll get Bee to write her a thank you note and say hello to her a bit later as I know she will be alone all day.
I’m not one of the mums that can think up and do I’m not one of the mums that can think up and do amazing Islamic crafts with the kids to teach them things. Sometimes makes me feel like a bit of a failure when I see all the amazing things some mums come up with and do 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I end up feeling like the kids are missing out.

But I’m not crafty at all....the thought of lots of craft things brings me up in a sweat 🙊🤦🏽‍♀️

I resort to books and reading. 🤷🏽‍♀️ This is one of our favourites which covers some of the Prophets. As it’s Christmas I’m getting Bee to read about Prophet Esa (as) (Jesus) as schools obviously teach them differently to what we believe.

And if I feel brave enough I might try and think up of a simple craft to do. Any suggestions?
