Cafe Yu – a family run cafe with a relaxed atmosphere.

Growing up I never really had a full English breakfast. It was usually cereal, toast or egg but recently I have become a fan of the full English breakfast, especially since I can treat myself to a halal one at a local cafe; Cafe Yu.

Who loves the @candykittens sweets? I’ve tried Who loves the @candykittens sweets?

I’ve tried a pack before and loved them. Then when I saw an offer on the #Vodaphone app to just pay postage and get these I couldn’t resist! Anyone tried these flavours?

Beautiful sunshine and it’s all about the garden Beautiful sunshine and it’s all about the gardening today. Sadly I can’t seem to do much. I planted a couple of things last week and ended up with some intense pain in my stomach so the garden is going to have to take a back seat this year. I did help Bee plant her sunflowers today though and she’s now watering all the pot plants.

If you do have a garden then get the kids involved to learn about plants and taking care of them. Gets them out and it’s educational

There’s very few pictures of us together. I’m There’s very few pictures of us together. I’m usually the one with the camera, so unless I tell someone to take one it doesn’t happen.

It’s our 16th wedding anniversary today!

Hubby is clueless, we don’t do much anyway plus it’s Ramadan.

But in all honesty my wedding day isn’t something I fondly remember.

I had no friends with me as it was in Pakistan. My brother wasn’t even there.

I didn’t like my outfit...my MIL insisted I buy from a certain shop which didn’t have my dream colour and outfit so I just got ‘whatever’.

My make up was done by a woman in the village when relatives would take their daughters to a salon and get them proper pampered for their wedding day.

My wedding video ended up rubbish, no decent professional photos...

I forgot to put my lenses in so was pretty much blind all day. Although that was good otherwise I would have given the death stare to everyone as I was fed up....plus I don’t like being looked at.

I never got my dream wedding henna either...no one arranged it and a cousin said her sister in law could do it but she was rubbish so I stopped her.....I could have done a better job myself.

Dad was unwell all day with a high temp so only could manage doing the bare minimum he had to do.

I didn’t even get to try my wedding food as no one thought to bring me some on the day.....while relatives brought Tupperware and were filling their boxes to take home.

My honeymoon was a day trip to Murray with FIL strictly saying we couldn’t stay over so the whole day was pretty much just spent travelling...but we came back quickly anyway as dad got really sick and was vomiting and had collapsed

So yeah my wedding day is something I’m quite happy to forget. Now don’t get me wrong....I didn’t want a lavish wedding at a hotel etc which can lead to people pretty much bankrupting themselves....just wish some of my dreams had come true like the outfit and the henna. And I would have been happy.

Yes I’m still bitter sometimes as I feel like none of my dreams ever come true....But ultimately what matters is I have two beautiful girls with another child on the way in sha Allah.

What’s a day? It’s the rest of your life that matters.
Back to karate and she’s been asked to be a drag Back to karate and she’s been asked to be a dragon helper Masha’Allah which means helping with the younger kids classes.

I’m kind of debating it to be honest as it means one day a week it will be straight to karate after school and she will be there till 7.30 when her own classes end. It’s going to be tiring.

But she really wants to do it and will teach her more about responsibility. We have worked it out so her dad usually has that day off work so she would be able to carry it on long term around the time I have the baby.

So I guess we have a new dragon helper!
We featured @jfzaidi in our Muslim Mums in Busines We featured @jfzaidi in our Muslim Mums in Business series and as a thank you she sent us a copy of her story: Tracey Learns to Lead.

A cute little story about Tracey who is a bossy puppy! While trying to tell the other puppies what to do in a bossy way, she learns from her mistakes and learns how to be a leader.

A sweet story for the younger ones.

I think I first saw these ‘Age of Bliss’ serie I think I first saw these ‘Age of Bliss’ series of books on @letslearnmama page. As she was recommending them I knew they must be good. I had seen them before but just hadn’t been sure about getting them.

So I ended up getting a couple from @kubepublishing.

They are recommended for ages 9+ but Bee at age 8 is already getting stuck in as her reading is pretty good Masha’Allah.

They are perfect for a bit of knowledge without being overwhelming.

I’ve always struggled doing stuff with the kids during Ramadan, I start off with good intentions but don’t get beyond a few days 🤦🏽‍♀️🙊

Books are good though, and we have been following a few youtube series online. Ramadan is all about the Quran and increasing your knowledge and Alhamdulillah I think we are managing that this year.

Following on from my Ramadan reads reel I did a fe Following on from my Ramadan reads reel I did a few days ago, I was just waiting for these to arrive as I purchased them from @kubepublishing while they had their discount.

I often find lengthy books hard to get into and stick with them...but the Angels in your Presence and Women in Islam are not lengthy and easy to read a bit at a time. I had watched the Angels series by @imamomarsuleiman last Ramadan and had regretted not taking notes while I was watching it...so was pleased to see a book released about the same topic.

The Age of Bliss books I got for the girls to read. There are a few more in the series..a few I wanted were out of stock but these will keep them going for now.

Love these tulips in my parents garden! Ramadan M Love these tulips in my parents garden!

Ramadan Mubarak to you all whether you are starting tomorrow or Wednesday. This is one Ramadan I won’t be fasting.

I know a lot of women who say they are fine and can fast without problems while pregnant...but I won’t be. I can’t risk it while being diabetic and pregnant considering I’m having to test my levels 4 times a day and send the results weekly to the diabetic team. They are just waiting to see if I need to increase my meds and put me on insulin and I need to keep my levels under control. I’m doing everything in my power not to have to get to the stage where I have to inject myself with insulin. And I know if I fast all day and then eat my levels will likely go crazy...they started to last year when I did fast and I wasn’t pregnant.

I won’t lie...part of me is relieved that I’m not having to fast these long hours...but the other part of me is sad I’ll be missing out on it while hubby and the eldest will be fasting. With Bee determined to do some at the weekends.

But it will leave me more time and energy for other things.

Reading more Quran during the month, listening to more Islamic lecturers....cooking for the family without feeling exhausted....just because I’m not fasting doesn’t mean I can’t get involved in other things. After all it is the month of the Quran and charity.

What do you do during the month when you can’t fast?
If I’m honest I’m scared. Not just scared of d If I’m honest I’m scared. Not just scared of dealing with a newborn again after thinking I was done with all that...but scared I’ll feel lost as a person again and feeling like ‘just a mum again’. I was only just beginning to feel like me if that makes sense and trying to work out what direction to head in now the kids were more independent.

Now there’s nothing wrong with being ‘just a mum’ but I’m not one of these homely women who live to raise families and are fully content in that role.

I don’t necessarily enjoy the newborn stage, the sleepless nights etc. Attempting to breastfeed also leads me close to sinking into a pit of depression as I find it so hard...so much so that I’m considering not even trying to do it this time as it gets to the stage I can’t bond with the child as I hate it so much.

I end up feeling lost and often alone. Hubby is always at work and never hands on when the kids are babies which means I can’t do anything for myself.

I’ve already quit as a school governor as I knew I wouldn’t be able to commit to the meetings etc and there was another project I was about to get involved in. Although I haven’t stepped away from that just yet I know I won’t be able to do as much as I had initially wanted.

I’m always grateful when the kids get old enough to be a bit more independent and do things for themselves. And I can be more ‘me’.

Include into the mix the added stress of diabetes in pregnancy and the possible extra complications and I’m scared stiff and my mind is awash with so many emotions.

I guess hormones are really messing with me at the moment. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️
So nice to get out and meet up with our friends fo So nice to get out and meet up with our friends for an hour or so!

Hadn’t realised how much I missed some proper adult conversation face to face. And the girls were happy to meet up with each other after so long!
