Cafe Yu – a family run cafe with a relaxed atmosphere.

Growing up I never really had a full English breakfast. It was usually cereal, toast or egg but recently I have become a fan of the full English breakfast, especially since I can treat myself to a halal one at a local cafe; Cafe Yu.

Cafe Yu

Café Yu is a family run cafe; we offer a warm welcome, a relaxed and cosy atmosphere where customers can enjoy quality food and time. We offer breakfasts (full english and desi style), sandwiches, paninis, jacket potatoes and much more

Cafe Yu is one of those places that is tucked away and can be easily missed. I must admit I drove past it so many times without noticing it until a friend mentioned it. But to be fair, even if I had noticed it I probably wouldn’t have visited thinking it wasn’t halal.

However it has now become one of my favourite places to treat the girls, meet friends or simply have a panini on the go.

Full English Breakfast

The Full English Breakfast consists of:

  • Toast
  • Beans
  • Hash Browns
  • Sausages
  • Mushroom
  • Tomato
  • Egg
  • English Tea

The breakfast is also available as a takeaway should you decide you want to eat at home or outdoors somewhere. And it is available all day too!

Desi style breakfasts are also available which includes a masala omelette, chick peas and pickle with a desi tea. Avocado on toast is also available along with pancakes and kids breakfast.

One of the favourites of the girls are the pancakes.

Lunch and Sweet and Savories

The menu is quite small but there is a variety of sandwiches, paninis and toasties available. I am a huge fan of the chicken panini which is full of flavour and often order one for a takeaway.

Jacket Potato, samosa chaat, chips and cakes/biscuits are also available.

Decor

The cafe is relatively small but the decor makes it feel cosy and we enjoy going there to have something to eat. However when it is busy it can feel a bit squashed so we then opt for a takeout.

There are a limited number of tables and chairs but our favourite spot has to be the seating by the window.

There is also a TV on the wall which is usually playing Nasheeds.

So if you want a nice relaxing breakfast, lunch or simply a snack with friendly service then give Cafe Yu on Dogsthorpe Road a try. For more information including the menu and prices, please take a look at the Cafe Yu Facebook Page.

Note: At the time of writing England is in its second lockdown so please check before visiting, as the Cafe may be closed or only open for takeaways.

  • I happen to be in this Cafe a couple of weeks ago and found it basic but pleasant.
The only criticism is that it’s over priced ( I travel about ) e.g In Leicester i can get a ‘Aloo Paratha ‘ ( and as tradition with butter ) for £1.50
& in Bedford it’s £1.75 and both prices are eat-in.
Masala Teas are £1,50-£1.70 And the accompaniments e.g Chana’s/Dahls are a larger potions
