Orphans In Need – Sponsor an Orphan

“Treat not the orphan with harshness” (Qur’an 93:9)

Asalaam Alaikum/Hi All
I have just come across a new organisation today and I wanted to share the details with you as I feel it is a worthwhile cause.
Taken from their site:
Muslims throughout the world recognise the stress placed by our beloved Prophet (pbuh) on the rights of the Orphan. The numerous quranic verses and the hadith on helping the needy, and especially the widows and orphans, has been the inspiration behind all that we do at Orphans in Need. The beloved prophet of Allah (SWT), gave glad tidings to those who excel in their kindness towards the orphans.

I have always felt that everyone who can do so, should sponsor an orphan. If there weren’t all these organisations helping these orphans then what type of life would they live? Imagine not having your parents at a young age, your other family cannot support you, you cannot afford to eat let alone get an education to improve your prospects, your future looks bleak……
I started sponsoring an orphan through another organisation over a year ago. InshAllah I am hoping to sponsor another but at the moment my job is slightly at risk so am going to wait to see what happens.
I personally have had no experience of Orphans in Need, but if you want more information then check out their site. They are also doing a Live TV appeal for Orphan Sponsorship on the Islam channel tonight and on Saturday from 7pm to Late. The Islam Channel can be found on Sky 813.
If you do not have the means to sponsor an orphan then you can also help by volunteering.
Have you seen him who denies the religion? He is the one who harshly rebuffs the orphan and does not urge the feeding of the poor. So woe to those who do prayer, and are forgetful of their prayer, those who show off and deny help to others. (Surat al-Ma’un: 1-7)

“I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter Paradise together like this, raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly, leaving no space in between.” [Sahih al-Bukhaari]

  • You know, I was thinking about this a few days ago. I'd like to adopt an orphan. But if the beevi agrees.

It is a noble cause, supporting those that are less well off / cannot support themselves. And that I think is the best way to define a country's progress.

  • Beevi'z have a softer heart as I'm 1 my self, Inshallah she will agree. would love 2 do the same but harvad don't agree. :-((

  • Interesting post. Here’s what Allah says about the orphans: Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allah , the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakah; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous. (2:177)
