Review: The Princess and The Peas and Carrots

The Princess and The Peas and Carrots is a jacketed picture book for ages 4-8 and includes a fold out fairytale. It is written by Harriet Ziefert with illustrations by Travis Foster.

The story is a retelling of the fairytale. In this story we have Rosebud who most of the time is ‘Good Princess Rosebud’, as called by her dad.
But some of the time she turns into ‘Princess Fussy’ as called by her mum. She can’t have itchy clothes, a hole in the sock, or…….have the peas touch the carrots!!
After a particularly big tantrum her dad tells her the story of the princess and the pea. This part of the book is the pull out fairytale which munchkin loved to unfold and read.
The story ends with Rosebud trying to be good, but her bed is too lumpy and she can’t sleep! Is she just being fussy again? Or is there a more royal reason for this?
Munchkin loved reading the book. She likes the pictures and she kept saying ‘Mum, she is soooo fussy isn’t she?’
I agreed, while silently thinking you are almost as fussy as Rosebud!!
The book has some lovely illustrations and any child who reads it is sure to love it.
Disclaimer: I was sent a copy of the book for the purposes of review. However, all opinions are my own.
