Educational and fun, fruit picking with the kids

I finally took the girls fruit picking at our local farm! I have been hoping to take them for weeks, and it either rained when we planned to go, or it was just way too hot during ramadan to be out in the sun picking fruit and not being able to have a drink. So as an Eid treat, the day after Eid, we finally went.

The last time I went fruit picking was as a child. I remember refusing to eat any of the fruit until it was actually paid for, while I watched everyone around me, including my family have a taste while they picked.

Munchkin has taken after me; she refused to eat any of the fruit. Although with her I think it was more a case of ‘what if a bird has pooped on it?!’

Bee however had no issue and literally stuffed herself silly!!

I really don’t know why I haven’t taken them sooner. Fruit picking is fun and educational. You can have a chat with the children about how fruit grows; on bushes, trees, and small plants. And also the effort it takes to plant the seeds and then care for them. There were only two rows of trees that had plums left so we could chat about how different varieties can be ready at different times and they got to see the green plums that were slowly gaining colour.

We arrived at the final day for strawberry picking so we had to really look under leaves and check out most of the plants to get enough strawberries to fill our pot. But we came away with more than enough.
