Becoming a Parent Governor?

Asalaam Alaikum/Hi all
Munchkin brought home a letter today stating that there are vacancies for parent governors and I have been thinking to apply.
The letter itself does not make it clear what is exactly expected from you so I have been googling and asking around.
A tweeter on twitter said she used to be a parent governor and she enjoyed it. It would however involve some training. I don’t mind training so that is not an issue.
It appears that the role of parent governors vary from school to school and the workload also varies. It seems that a parent governor would have to attend meetings and in essence be the voice of the parents. Some parent governors also observe lessons.
I think I could do all that.
I can be pretty vocal when I want to!
What do you think? Would you become a parent governor?

  • oh MashaAllah I think you would be great at it MashaAllah. It's a great way of getting involved in your child's school and InshaAllah it will be beneficial for you

I personally couldn't do it due to personal circumstances, but something i would love to do though, if i could

  • I remember my mum did this when I was in my first and second year in secondary school.
I think I would give it a go but maybe you'd like to get more info on how many hours you have to give and the amount of work involved.
    Have a lovely day!!

  • @Salma

Every school has school governors which basically run the school

Then they have parent governors which basically are the voice of the parents, mention parents concerns and help run events
