Friday Wisdom 20/01/2012

A religious Friday Wisdom today.

I can often be very unforgiving, especially when someone has hurt me. I know this is not good and have tried to change over the years. Our religion teaches forgiveness.

“Hold to forgiveness, command what is right, and turn away from the ignorant.” [Qur’an, 7:199]
On the authority of Anas, who said: I heard the messenger of Allah say:

Allah the Almighty has said: “O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as its.”

  • Forgiveness, never easy. But as I always think we pray and ask God to forgive us, we should be able to forgive others. It is one of the most liberating experience.
Love the quote and the lines that follow, very beautiful.
Have a lovely day and week-end Foz. xo

  • I've had my fair share of battling forgiveness, too. As Marie said, never easy. But if we remember that Allah can forgive us no matter how great our sins are, then we will be humbled. I notice that sometimes its our ego that gets in the way.

Thanks for this great quote. Have a good rest and a great week end. It's a long weekend in Singapore (Monday and Tuesday is Chinese New Year here and therefore it's a public holiday and no work!) Yay!

  • Assalamu Aleykum,

I'm a bit like you, it's sometimes really difficult for me to forgive, I tend to hold grudge against people. But as Marie beautifully said, I have realised that forgiveness is liberating, healing process can't be fully done without forgiveness.
I've recently learnt how to forgive and my heart feels more at peace Alhamdulillah.ALLAH SWT will forgive the ones who have forgiven people in this life, and as I'm myself far from being perfect I often think that there's a few people from whom I'd love to get forgiveness too.

  • Dear sis,

    Assalamu Alaikkum,

Let me add a hadit as my contribution to this effort:

Allah's messenger told- "Seeking knowledge is obligatory on every Muslim."— Ibn Majah and Bayhaqi in Shu’ab al-Iman, Tirmidhi, hadith #74

May Allah bless all of us.

  • Thank you for your comments everyone!

True, Inspiring ALways, we must remember that if Allah (swt) is the greatest of forgivers then how can we not forgive.
