As part of the Tots100 Film Club with Warner Bros, I was offered a selection of films to review. I picked ‘A Little Princess’ as I had seen parts of the film before but not the whole film. From what I had seen I thought munchkin would enjoy it.
A little princess is about a little girl, who believes ALL girls are princesses and don’t have to be rich and pretty to be one! She is left at a boarding school for girls as her father goes off to fight in W.W.I. Intitally things are all going well, until she learns on her birthday that her father has died …..cue the pregnancy hormones making me want to cry. That is when the headmistress turns nasty and life as an orphan is difficult for the ‘princess’. Initially things look bleak for her, but she makes the best of a bad situation and continues to hope.
I don’t want to spoil the ending for those who haven’t seen it, but it DOES have a happy ending…. (thankfully, otherwise my hormones would have had me crying buckets!!).
Munchkin did seem to enjoy the film but there were bits where she did look a bit bored and started playing with her doll, (who was also watching the film with us). In addition to this, the little princess was telling her friends about an indian story which was shown in animation through the film and at one point I thought the monster she was talking about looked a bit scary!!
However, we did enjoy the film. The acting was great and another star was the monkey in the film! I loved him!
