There are so many articles out there on how to potty train your child with plenty of tips and tricks. But if your child really does not want to sit on the potty then you will probably end up exhausting all avenues. Best thing then is usually to take a step back and try again later.
Bee first sat on a potty when she was around 18 months. I think if I had pushed her at the time then she may have been trained sooner.
I properly tried when she was just over two. I have a relaxed approach and was just getting her used to using it before bath and bed. It was working and then all of a sudden she started to refuse to sit on the potty. I do not know what actually spooked her but she was adamant that she was not going to sit on it.
I tried a few times to get her to sit on it over the following months but no amount of coaxing would work.
That is until we were offered the chance to review a personalised potty training book from Penwizard.
Penwizard is a personalised children’s book company formed in 2004 to develop innovative personalised products using ‘web to print’ technology, linking customers’ data to a digital printing press. Our personalised books are unique in that customers can personalise the illustrations as well as the words. We digitally print all of our products in the UK to the highest specifications.
If I am honest I have never really been into the whole personalised thing, but I was willing to give the book a try. What I loved about the book was the fact that it is not just the name that is personalised, you can personalise the character itself to try to get it to look like your child.
You are able to change the hair colour and style and also change the skin colour. If your child wears glasses these can be added too. You can also personalise the name of the person who is going to be helping potty train: IE Mummy.
Bee absolutely adores the book. As soon as we read it she wanted to go sit on the potty! Although she didn’t actually do anything, just the fact that she was willing to sit on it again was an achievement. She loved the fact that her name was in the book and wanted me to read it with her daily! I genuinely believe the book is what encouraged her to sit on the potty and helped us when we finally fully potty trained.
The story goes through the process of going to the shop, picking a potty and pants. It then also mentions using the potty and wiping and cleaning your hands afterwards. Also mentioned is that accidents can happen and that poos can be harder!
The book itself is colourful with different coloured pages and the illustrations are simple but eye catching. Although Bee is now potty trained she still loves the book and often asks to read it at bedtime!
The Penwizard personalised potty training book is priced at £14.99 and is available driect from the Penwizard website.
