Ties of Kinship are very important in Islam. Severing them can have consequences:
Allah Almighty said: ‘Would you then, if you were given the authority, do mischief in the land, and sever your ties of kinship? Such are they whom Allâh has cursed, so that He has made them deaf and blinded their sight.’ [Surat Muhammad 47:22-23]
Sometimes it can be hard to keep ties, especially if it can feel like your own family members are judging you, competing with your, criticising your every move…and basically feeling as though they are poison in your life….. but it is still important to keep some kind of tie with them, even if it just to say salaam and keep things civil.
