Car Genie from the AA – For Your Piece of Mind #Spon

We just recently got a new to us car. Although it is only 5 years old, there is always the worry with a used car that there could be some unseen faults! We do tend to travel a lot on days out with the girls and with the summer holidays coming up I want to know that this car is reliable and isn’t going to break down on us!

So wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to pick up on any faults before it gets serious and your car breaks down leaving you stranded? And trust me, I don’t want to be left stranded with the girls when they are constantly bickering!!!

The AA have come up with an ingenious little device called the Car Genie.

Available to Members of the AA for a mere £29 annually, it doesn’t just detect faults but can even help your driving.

When I first heard about it I was pretty impressed with the concept so was pleased to be able to give it a try. So what does it specifically do?

• Checks your car’s health and lets you know if there are any faults.
• Can detect a crash which then triggers a call from the AA to help.
• Keeps an eye on the battery
• It tracks your cars location so you can see if it has been moved.
• Tracks your journeys
• It can offer fuel efficiency tips and give you an ‘eco score’.

All this is done via a free app available on both android and IOS.

How do you install the Car Genie?

The Car Genie is self installed, so no expensive mechanic costs. It is a simple device that plugs into the OBDII port in your car. I am not afraid to admit I have no idea what an OBDII port is (apparently its to do with the car’s On-Board Diagnostics), or even where it was located in the car. However the app has a fitment guide for those who do not know like me.

Once you have located it, it is simply matter of just pushing in the device into the port. So not even 10 seconds!

The port is usually somewhere out of the way so once the device is plugged in it is not even noticeable and won’t get inconvenience you.

Car Genie App

The app itself is very detailed.

You get a:

• Driving Summary
• Eco Score
• Battery Health
• Fault Detector
• Journey information.

My favourite part has to be the eco score. The score is calculated using a number of factors; assessing speed, cornering, braking, acceleration and use of revs. Then based on the score the app offers fuel efficiency tips. Who doesn’t want to try to save fuel?!

It certainly does give you peace of mind that if anything does start to go wrong with your car you will get a notification from the app. The AA state that this app will help prevent 1/3 of breakdowns!  Anything that can help prevent a breakdown is a good thing!
