Sick child

Asalaam Alaikum

Hadith – Bukhari 7:564
I visited Allah’s Apostle May Allah's peace and praise be on him while he was suffering from a high fever. I touched him with my hand and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! You have a high fever.” Allah’s Apostle May Allah's peace and praise be on him said, “Yes, I have as much fever as two men of you have.” I said, “Is it because you will get a double reward?” Allah’s Apostle May Allah's peace and praise be on him said, “Yes, no Muslim is afflicted with harm because of sickness or some other inconvenience, but that Allah will remove his sins for him as a tree sheds its leaves.”

My little munchkin has been off colour since Sunday but yesterday was the worst. Last night her temperature peaked at 40.3oc. She also hadn’t eaten in 24 hours. It was concerning when I took her temperature and it was 39 but when it hit over 40 it was truely frightening.

As a parent for me the first instinct is to panic! What shall I do? Shall I ring the GP? Oh surgery is closed now! Shall I ring NHS direct? No, in the past they have been useless. Shall I take her to the walk in centre? Am I over reacting?? Question after question raced through my mind.

I ended up speaking to a friend on MSN who is currently studying medicine. Alhamdulillah she took away some of my fears and I spoke to some mums on a local forum who said a virus is going round.

Clearly a fever of such high proportions is not to be ignored. If it is not brought down with the aid of a medicine such as Calpol and it continues for over 24 hours then it is best to get it checked by a GP.
Luckily munchkin’s temperature was back to normal by the morning. When she said she wanted to go to school I breathed a sigh of relief as clearly she was better… but obviously I didn’t send her.
The ordeal wasn’t over though as she still didn’t feel like eating. She had some water and brought it back up. My hubby took her to my mums as I had to go to work and she was sick there. They panicked and called the doctor. If they had seen the state she was in the night before I don’t think a bit of sick would have concerned them so much.
Although they were concerned I think they should have called me first before calling the doctor. I had already told them the doctor wouldn’t do anything and I was right.
She is now pretty much back to normal except for a cough Alhamdulillah! However I think I may now be coming down with it.
The trials of being a parent hey?
