Muslim Mums in Business – Madiha Creates

My Muslim Mums in Business series focus’s on inspirational Muslim women, who are balancing the art of motherhood along with running businesses.

Please introduce yourself and your business.

Assalamo Alaikum,My name is Madiha I run the online store “MadihaCreates” where I make Islamic and ethnic gifts.

What makes your business different from your competitors?

My products are designed with lots of thought and love so it benefits the muslim community to connect with their deen. MYAnd also for desi’s living abroad with their culture back home! I have also designed customized mugs for my fellow mom entrepreneurs.

What inspired you to start working from home? Did anyone, in particular, inspire you?

I always had a lot of interest in arts and creativity ever since I was a child, which I placed on the back burner while I was busy raising kids. Alhamdulillah, when my kids got bigger I started designing digital prints and greeting cards for friends and family, they encouraged me to open my Etsy shop that’s how it began. I’m always inspired by Allah’s Creations especially flowers, I love flowers. Also, other artists and creatives inspire me a lot.

Is your family supportive of you being a working mother?

Alhamdulillah, I’m blessed to have a very supportive family they always encourage me and helped me to grow in every way they could.

What are the main challenges you face as a mum and an entrepreneur?

The main challenge is to balance home and business. As a novice entrepreneur, it’s only been three years and there is a lot to learn. Running a business has lots of different aspects other than creating a product you have to do photography, listing, marketing, social media, shipping products, etc.

Describe a typical working day. Are there specific times in the day that you work on your business?

There is no set time I workaround whenever I get time from my daily things.

What are the pros and cons of being a working mum from home?

Pros: the ease of working in your pajamas. working at your times and ease. Being your own boss!!
Cons: being always available to your family and having to constantly shift from work to home activities

On your toughest days, what helps keep you motivated?

Quranic Reminders like “there is always ease after hardship” and my drive to help my community bringing their deen and their culture to their homes.

Where would you like to see your business in the future?

I would like to create more products that would help people of the community in sha Allah. Right now I’m mostly shipping within the United States but would love to be able to ship worldwide, in sha Allah.

What advice would you give to mums considering taking the step of being a working mum?

I would advise working moms to take it easy on themselves, make sure they take out time for self-care and believe that they are capable even when nobody else does. Never underestimate the power of dua always and keep their connection strong with Allah subhanahu tallah.
