Introducing Mindfulness to Children

Disclosure: We received a copy of the journal for free. We were not asked to write a blog post and all thoughts and opinions are our own.

Mindfulness is not something I specifically thought about with my children but I have come to realise how important it is.

Why is Mindfulness Important?

Mindfulness in children is important as it can help children deal with emotions they are experiencing. It can also help reduce stress and anxiety, and therefore improve their attention and focus. In addition to this it can increase their resilience and make them more empathic.

With so many changes in our home at the moment with a new baby, the My Mindfulness Journal arrived at the right time for Bee.

My Mindfulness Journal

So what is the ‘My Mindfulness Journal’?

My Mindfulness Journal is the first Islamic Mindfulness journal for kids! Designed with thought and passion, it’s intention is to give every child (or adult!) a tool to turn to, to express themselves and promote positive mental wellbeing. In the digital age, where children are now swiping and pressing with their fingers… give them a break and go back to the old pen to paper which the benefits on so many levels!

Mini Mindful Muslims

The My Mindfulness Journal is recommended for ages 8+ and has many features:

  • A5 size
  • PU leather with flap
  • Gold foiled and debossed
  • 8 sticker sheets of Quranic emotion animals
  • Star stamp (choice of colour)
  • Self-adhesive dua flaps

The journal starts off with a page to put a bit of information about yourself. Then a few pages of introduction about journaling, meeting the emotion animals and talking about mindfulness and emotions.

Themes

The journal is based on monthly themes which is a good idea as it allows the child to focus on one thing rather than get overwhelmed with lots of different things. and there is no dates so you can start and start each theme as and when you wish. The themes are:

  • Reflect and Ponder
  • Kindness
  • Growth Mindset
  • Calm and Relax
  • Gratitude
  • Feelings and emotions
  • Coping with Setbacks
  • Mindfulness
  • Self COnfidence
  • Resilience
  • Compassion
  • Being Supportive

Each theme is explained and then involves weekly goals, affirmations, quotes salah chart and much more. In addition to this each month also has includes a Prophetic story.

At the end of each theme there is also a breathing board.

What did we think?

The journal is perfect for muslim children to help them explore their thoughts and feelings whilst also learning important traits…and all not forgetting the islamic theme. The salah tracker is also a great way to encourage them to complete their daily prayers. The colour pages are appealing to the eye and the illustrations are a joy to go through. A lot of care and attention has gone into this journal which is shown by it’s quality; it would make a lovely gift for your children.
